Delta buys 49% of Virgin Atlantic

It was announced on the 11th December that Delta Airlines of the USA would be buying 49% of Virgin Atlantic from Singapore Airlines. The deal is valued to be at around US$360m (£224).

This will enable both Virgin Atlantic and Delta to ease their slot constraints at Heathrow.

This also means that Virgin Atlantic are expected to join the Sky Team alliance in stead of Star Alliance.

The Airlines will co-ordinate flight schedules, fares and code-shares throughout their services.
